It seems that history has gone in circles. Prey fans can’t wait for the sequel and have decided to write an open letter to Bethesda regarding it. Gamers note that Game Pass makes such experiments less risky.
Fearing that Prey 2 would share the fate of Prey 2, fans associated with the Daily Prey community decided write an open letter asking Bethesda to create a sequel. The email was tagged with the #PreyForASequel hashtag and sent via social media to the official Bethesda, Arkane and Xbox accounts.
Prey may not have been an instant hit, but thanks to a Game Pass subscription, the game is finally getting its due. What used to be a risky investment is now something clearly less expensive and worth a try. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine a better place and time to try once more,” the letter says.
Fans cite the disappointing sales of Prey, which caused plans for a sequel to be put on hold or even cancelled. Players see hope in the Game Pass subscription, which allows developers to reduce the risks associated with a possible commercial failure of the game, and offer to take a chance and make a sequel. Prey has received a lot of accolades from gamers in recent years, despite the fact that the process wasn’t instantaneous.
This is somewhat reminiscent of the situation with the original 2006 Prey – the Human Head Studios game also gained a lot of fans who might not wait for the second part. In the end, Prey 2 never saw the light of day, and at the moment there is little to indicate that things will be different with Prey 2017.
The developers at Arkane Austin don’t seem particularly interested in making a sequel to the acclaimed game.
