The Puente Alto Guarantee Court left this Thursday subject to the precautionary measure of preventive prison a Francisco Ismael Gajardo Quirogaaccused by the Public Ministry as the author of the consummated crime of simple homicideafter the death of a young man while bungee jumping, in the commune of San José de Maipo, Metropolitan Region.
At the formalization hearing, Judge Romina Onetto ordered Gajardo Quiroga’s entry into the Puente Alto Preventive Detention Centerconsidering that the freedom of the accused constitutes a danger to the security of society.
Furthermore, he set 90 days investigation period.
According to the prosecuting entity, at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, on the way to Alfalfal in the commune of San José de Maipo, the accused, who introduced himself as bungee instructoragreed to a jump with the victim, Diego Sebastian Albornoz Coronado23 years old, without having the permits to operate or the appropriate technical implements.
The accused incorrectly installed the harness on the victimwho jumped into the void and remained suspended in the air for almost half an hour.
Although the young man asked Gajardo Quiroga for help, he did not help him.
The victim finally died at the scene, due to a positional asphyxiation and external cervical compression.
