Preventive health features with the new Galaxy Watch and the BioActive sensor – Samsung Newsroom Belgium

Samsung continues to innovate in digital health by combining analytics and measurement data to deliver a wellness experience. The latest version of the BioActive Sensor, available on the upcoming Galaxy Watch, makes personalized wellness tools and measurements even more accurate, accessible to a greater number of people compared to the Galaxy Watch 6.

Samsung’s BioActive Sensor

The new BioActive Sensor is key to delivering better preventative health features on the upcoming Galaxy Watch. Samsung has improved the sensor in three ways: with better photodiodes, multiple light-emitting diode (LED) colors, and improved LED distribution across the sensor.

Photodiode performance has more than doubled, reducing the number of photodiodes needed from eight to four. This frees up space to include additional color LEDs. The new sensor features blue, yellow, violet, and ultraviolet LEDs, as well as more green, red, and infrared LEDs. This innovative technology opens up new possibilities for health monitoring on wearable devices.

Increased precision and new forms of preventive health functions

The better distribution of green, red and infrared LEDs allows for even more precise measurements. The new BioActive Sensor measures heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and stress levels. Even heart rate measurement during intensive training sessions has been improved by 30% compared to the previous version.

Thanks to new LEDs and specially designed photodiodes, it is possible to predict trends and take preventive measures to improve health. For example, with the Advanced Glycation End Products Index (AGEs Index) which provides an indication of metabolic health and biological aging. AGEs are strongly influenced by lifestyle and dietary habits. This index provides a snapshot of biological age, allowing users to work in an informed manner towards a healthier future.

AGEs Index is just one of the many new features coming to the upcoming Galaxy Watch. We can’t wait to show them off!

[2] The Blood Pressure feature is available in select markets only. To ensure accuracy, users should calibrate their device every four weeks with a traditional blood pressure cuff. The Blood Pressure app cannot diagnose high blood pressure, other conditions, or detect signs of a heart attack. This app is only for use by users ages 22 and up. It is not a substitute for traditional diagnosis or treatment by a qualified healthcare professional.

[4] AGEs Index monitoring will be available on the upcoming Galaxy Watch series. Galaxy Watch uses light sensors that comply with IEC62471 safety regulations. However, people with light-sensitive skin may experience side effects such as color changes or rashes. Avoid using this feature if you experience symptoms of photosensitivity. AGEs Index monitoring is intended for fitness and wellness purposes only, and is not intended for the diagnosis and treatment of any medical condition. If you are concerned regarding your health, consult a physician.

Samsung’s BioActive Sensor: Revolutionizing Wellness with Advanced Technology

Samsung continues to push the boundaries of digital health by seamlessly blending analytics and measurement data to deliver a truly personalized wellness experience. The upcoming Galaxy Watch boasts the latest iteration of the BioActive Sensor, marking a significant leap forward in accessibility and accuracy for a wide range of health tracking functionalities.

Samsung’s BioActive Sensor: A Deeper Dive

The BioActive Sensor is the heart of the enhanced health features on the upcoming Galaxy Watch. Samsung has meticulously refined the sensor in three key areas:

  • Advanced Photodiodes: The photodiode performance has been more than doubled, significantly improving light detection. This advancement has allowed Samsung to reduce the number of photodiodes from eight to four, freeing up valuable space for additional components.
  • Multi-Color LED Integration: The new sensor features an array of LEDs, encompassing blue, yellow, violet, ultraviolet, green, red, and infrared. This expanded spectrum opens up exciting possibilities for more comprehensive health monitoring.
  • Optimized LED Distribution: The strategic distribution of green, red, and infrared LEDs enhances the sensor’s precision. This improvement paves the way for more accurate data collection and analysis.

Enhanced Precision and New Preventive Health Functions

The refined BioActive Sensor empowers the Galaxy Watch to deliver a broader range of health measurements with unprecedented accuracy, including:

  • Heart Rate: Experience more precise heart rate tracking, particularly during intense workouts, with a 30% improvement over the previous generation.
  • Sleep Quality: Gain deeper insights into your sleep patterns and identify areas for improvement.
  • Blood Pressure: Monitor blood pressure levels directly on your wrist. (Available in select markets only. Users should calibrate their device every four weeks with a traditional blood pressure cuff. The Blood Pressure app is not a substitute for professional medical diagnosis or treatment.)
  • Blood Oxygen Levels: Track your oxygen saturation levels for a better understanding of your overall health.
  • Stress Levels: Monitor your stress levels and identify potential triggers.

Beyond these core functions, the BioActive Sensor enables the Galaxy Watch to offer innovative preventive health features, such as the AGEs Index.

Introducing the AGEs Index: A Window into Metabolic Health and Biological Aging

The AGEs Index, powered by the BioActive Sensor, provides insights into your metabolic health and biological aging. AGEs (Advanced Glycation End Products) are complex molecules that accumulate in the body over time due to factors like lifestyle choices and dietary habits. A higher AGEs Index can be an indicator of accelerated aging and increased risk of chronic diseases.

By tracking your AGEs Index, you can:

  • Gain a more comprehensive understanding of your overall health.
  • Identify lifestyle adjustments that can positively impact your biological age.
  • Take informed steps towards a healthier future.

The AGEs Index is just one example of the new features that Samsung is introducing on the upcoming Galaxy Watch. We can’t wait to unveil the full suite of innovative wellness tools designed to empower you to take control of your health and well-being.

Important Note: Galaxy Watch is intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. It is not designed for the detection, diagnosis, or treatment of any medical condition or disease. If you have any concerns regarding your health, please consult a qualified healthcare professional.
