The Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family proceeded earlier on Monday (12.08.2024) with the preventive removal of the 57 guests at the Nursing Home in Melissia, due to the fire in Attica.
As the fire in Attica burns for another 24 hours, the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family has decided on the precautionary removal of the 57 guests at the Chronic Sufferers’ Facility in Melissia and their accommodation in other structures supervised by YKOISO.
Although the structure was not in danger due to the fire, by decision of the Minister, Sofia Zaharakis, it was decided to transfer the patients due to the increased concentration of ash and smoke in the area.
Earlier on Monday morning, following the relevant instructions from the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, 32 small children and 10 workers were quickly and safely removed from the Penteli Child Protection Unit, which is a service of the “Mother” Child Protection Center.
A special plan has been drawn up by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family for the camps of Nea Makri/Agios Andreas and Keratea.
The Keratea children’s camp is in operation and currently hosts 240 children. For precautionary reasons, a decision was made to gradually leave the children either by their own means or by means of the camp. At the same time, the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family has ensured the possibility, if deemed necessary, for the camp to host families and people who have been removed from their homes.
At the camp of Nea Makris, in collaboration with the Municipality, the cabins are being prepared to accommodate either firefighters or residents of the area, if and when the need arises.
The start of the next camp period for 300 Persons with Disabilities is also being postponed for a few days, so that the situation in the area can be re-evaluated. The decision was taken in collaboration with the Panhellenic Federation of Associations of Parents and Guardians of Persons with Disabilities (POSGAMEA), which implements the Camp Program for Persons with Disabilities, at the site of Agios Andreas Attica – Nea Makri (Eth Children’s Countryside).
The Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family and POSGAmeA will re-announce the start time of the camp season for this particular camp.
