From March 27 the campaign “Don’t burn the grass!” will take place. During it, the officers of the Fire Protection Service of the Alytus District Municipality will organize raids, drive around settlements and open areas. The situation will be monitored, measures will be taken to eliminate the fire, and the violators will be punished.
Every year, residents burn dry grass despite warnings and fines from the Fire Protection Service. This creates dangerous and often uncontrollable situations.
For burning dry grass, residents are fined from 50 to 300 euros, legal entities – from 120 to 350 euros.
The Fire Protection Service of the Alytus District Municipality has already received calls this year regarding grass being burned in open areas. Aleksandras Bružas, the head of this service, says that the irresponsible behavior of some residents causes great damage to nature, besides, when burning grass, flames often spread to homesteads, destroying residential, farm or other buildings.
We urge the residents of Alytus district to act responsibly, not to endanger themselves and nature.
