Written by Fatima Khalil Monday, December 18, 2023 12:00 PM Dr. Laila Hegazy, professor of chest allergy at Ain Shams University, said that the blanket is among the things that contain dust that causes chest irritation for patients. AllergiesEspecially if it is not cleaned and taken care of well.
She explained, in a special statement to Al-Youm Al-Sabea, that the dirt found in blankets, carpets, and curtains is also an allergy factor and contains bed bugs, which are considered the most common cause of allergies.
She confirmed that using a fiber quilt is much better than a blanket, because it carries less dust, and a cover can be placed over it to prevent dust from getting off, and this cover can be washed repeatedly.
She pointed out the necessity of washing blankets regularly, and it is advisable to use other means of heating, such as a quilt.
She stressed the necessity of taking care of blankets, carpets, and curtains and washing them regularly for chest allergy patients to kill bed bugs, adding that a soft cloth toy for children can also be placed in the freezer for two days so that it kills the bed bug and does not cause an increase in allergy symptoms.
She explained that the blanket may also contain polyester, which is unhealthy because it traps heat, does not absorb sweat, and does not ventilate the body, similar to a nylon bag.
She advised chest allergy patients to adhere to preventive inhaler treatment throughout the winter, to protect them from any recurring bouts of worsening allergy symptoms, adding that worsening allergies leave an impact on the bronchial tubes, so we must continue taking preventive treatment throughout the winter and not only when necessary.
