From May to the end of November, the tiger mosquito is subject to heightened surveillance by the ARS in the region. Last year, the pest continued its development by colonizing a hundred new municipalities, including several in the Pays de Savoie and in Ain.

Detected for the first time in 2012 in the region, the tiger mosquito continues to establish itself in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Now present in more than 800 municipalities in the region, the pest develops particularly in summer. 24 cases of dengue fever in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Indeed, the mosquito, recognizable by its black and white striped dress, is a vector of dengue fever, chikungunya or Zika. As of August 2, 24 cases of dengue have been reported in the Region and one case of chikungunya. If the Rhône is the most affected department, two cases of dengue have been detected in Ain and two others in Haute-Savoie.

Nevertheless, these are imported cases (from Guadeloupe, Thailand, Martinique or even Kenya) and not so-called indigenous cases – that is to say, contracted locally. The figure is therefore not alarming, but the ARS recalls the need to fight once morest the mosquito. The diseases it transmits have as symptoms high fevers, joint pains, nausea or skin rashes.

Above all, the life of the tiger mosquito being linked to water, it must be prevented from accessing any container or containers of water to prevent its proliferation.
