The shortage of equipment for installations does not only have consequences for customers. For several months, specialized companies have increasingly seen their equipment disappear on construction sites, according to the 19:30 RTS. On Valais soil, a construction site in Conthey was recently the scene of a theft. Panels, delivered a week before installation, were stolen during the night. Several cantonal police confirm these thefts, observed for a few years.

Enhanced security
Solar panels have become a rare and coveted commodity. To continue working, entrepreneurs take measures and place their goods under close surveillance. After being robbed of several tens of thousands of francs worth of equipment, the Valais company Alpwatt has redoubled its caution: it has opted for a discreet storage location, installed cameras and organized patrols to monitor the equipment. The solar panels are also transported at the last minute, to the construction sites, to avoid theft.
Compared to 2021, the increase in solar power generation in 2022 was 25%. Now, photovoltaic installations provide 6.3% of the country’s electricity needs, or 3.7 terawatt hours per year.
