Preventing Quran Desecration: Sweden’s Regret and Saudi Protest

Riyadh: Sweden has expressed regret over the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran. The Saudi foreign minister expressed his regret following protesting. The Saudi Foreign Minister said that desecration of the Quran can only be described as hatred.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan has asked the Swedish Foreign Minister to completely reject all attempts to insult the Holy Quran. The minister also demanded that immediate action be taken to stop terrorist activities that try to belittle holy religious books and create outrage.

The Saudi Foreign Minister expressed his protest by calling the Swedish Foreign Minister. He also reminded that repeating incidents of burning copies of the Holy Qur’an will cause hatred among the people. But Swedish Foreign Minister Billström condemned and regretted the burning of the Koran by some of his countrymen. He said that he will try to stop such acts of desecration of religious books.

Last day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the head of the Danish Embassy and conveyed the protest resolution. After Sweden, Denmark also burned copies of the Quran. In view of the recurrence of such incidents of insulting the Holy Book and Islam, the Organization of Islamic Countries has called an emergency meeting in Jeddah on Monday.
