HEALTH. Thursday, June 8, the therapeutic patient education team and SOS hepatitis were present at the entrance of the Geneviève de Gaulle-Anthonioz hospital center, on the occasion of the world day of awareness of the disease “Nash” (Non alcoholic steatohepatitis) or metabolic hepatitis. This disease is a fatty liver disease linked to too rich a diet and too much sedentary lifestyle. The event was also part of the month of June without added sugars.

Pascal Melin, head of the liver department and in charge of therapeutic education, recalled: “The objective of this awareness day is to prevent this disease. Today 800,000 people in France show symptoms of the disease, 200,000 people are sick and 4,000 die each year from liver cancer or cirrhosis. Between 1 and 1.5 million people have Nash. »

“Losing weight, practicing physical activity is necessary to reduce physical inactivity and the risk of disease, and also to reduce the consumption of fatty and sugary foods, responsible for obesity and diabetes”, specified Pascal Melin.

At the beginning of the day, people took part in collective workshops. Several awareness-raising questionnaires were also handed out, asking, among other things, regarding the quantity of fats contained in certain sweet foods such as soda, sugar cubes or energy bars.

The therapeutic patient education team also offers support with a dietician, a sports medicine educator and nurses. Finally, an “anti-Nash” guide book, released the same day, was also presented to people wishing to know more regarding this still little-known liver disease.
