The food we eat daily plays a major role in providing our bodies with the required energy, so that we can engage in various activities actively and energetically.

Although food is the primary means that ensures our bodies enjoy good health, it can also be a source of disease, specifically infections. of disease risks.

Muhammad Rahal, a public health doctor, said in an interview with “Sky News Arabia” that inflammation is a protective reaction by the body’s immune system once morest injury, and it occurs when white blood cells fight to protect the body from infection with bacteria and viruses, indicating that Inflammation has multiple causes and types, as food can indeed be a cause of infection, and this can happen when eating processed foods in large quantities.

How does food cause inflammation?

Rahal explains that in the case where inflammation is caused by food, what happens is due to the ability of processed foods to change the bacteria that live in our intestines, and this change activates our immune system, because it feels that the body is being harmed, which ultimately leads to chronic inflammation, which drains Our energy and increases the likelihood of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Rahal believes that it is not required for a person to rely on an ideal diet to protect himself from infection caused by processed food, as all that is required of him is not to overeat these foods.

Foods that stimulate inflammation

For her part, nutritionist Tala Al-Khatib said in an interview with “Sky News Arabia” that the most prominent foods that stimulate the inflammatory response in the body are:

Deep fried foods, as when we deep fry any type of food, especially when we use previously used oil, that food contributes to the formation of inflammatory particles in our bodies. Charcoal grilled meat, as the black burn marks that appear on the meat indicate that the food now contains compounds that cause fat and lead to protein oxidation, which causes oxidative stress and cell damage, noting that eating any animal meat grilled on charcoal has burn marks. It can stimulate an inflammatory response in the body, but red meat is the worst. Ultra-processed foods lead to chronic inflammation, because they contain many added ingredients, such as sugar, salt, fat, and artificial colors. Examples of these foods are frozen meals, soft drinks, fast food, packaged biscuits, chocolate, sauces, and yogurt. Foods that contain added sugar can increase inflammation by raising levels of C-reactive protein in the body, which is a sign of inflammation. Added sugar is found in many types of foods such as bread, instant oatmeal, protein bars, energy drinks, and processed juices. Milk substitutes, soft drinks, biscuits, cookies, and peanut butter. Processed meat products, such as bacon, sausage and beef mortadella, can cause inflammation for several reasons, starting with their high saturated fat content, which makes the body’s fatty tissue more inflamed.

Al-Khatib stressed that eating these types of foods in a moderate and infrequent manner cannot lead to inflammation, stressing that she advises people in general to adhere to a healthy diet in their normal lives, which will positively affect their health.
