The doctor claims that a love of sweets has nothing to do with diabetes.

Change your lifestyle

Diabetes can be avoided, says endocrinologist Olga Koteshkova. You just need to change your lifestyle. The doctor noted that the most common cause of type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance. It is directly related to the wrong lifestyle. The doctor listed the lack of physical activity and consumption of foods that are rich in fat and quickly digestible carbohydrates as other factors causing the disease.

The love of sweets will not lead to diabetes, however, Koteshkova emphasized that if it is sweet combined with fat, then insulin resistance can increase sharply.

Genetics and diet

The doctor added that a low-calorie diet and fasting are not recommended for patients with diabetes; this is an extreme situation for the body. But a balanced diet is simply necessary.

If a sick person is overweight, then it is important to lose weight, and the rate of weight loss should be at least 5–7% of the original. This is very important, because when you lose weight, the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin increases and the risks of developing diabetes decrease, the doctor explained.
