Preventing Dengue Fever Contamination: Regional Health Agency’s Operation in Chaintré

2023-08-26 08:19:59

The Regional Health Agency is carrying out this operation to avoid any risk of contamination.

The operation will take place on the night of Monday August 28 to Tuesday August 29, from 3 to 4 am, precisely in the area of rue des Buissonats in Chaintré, near Mâcon. It was here that a person who was found to be a carrier of dengue fever, a virus from Southeast Asia nicknamed “tropical flu”, stayed between August 12 and 17.

“If a tiger mosquito has bitten this person, it is likely to transmit the virus to other people by biting them followingwards, thus potentially starting a chain of contamination”

Regional Health Agency

However, the tiger mosquito is indeed established in the town of Chaintré this year. On August 25, agents from EIRAD (Rhône-Alpes interdepartmental agreement for mosquito control) carried out a door-to-door operation to “identify breeding sites and destroy them“. In addition, an insecticide spraying operation will be carried out on the night of the 28th to the 29th.

The insecticide in question is composed of Deltamethrin in a dose 10 to 20 times lower than in agricultural use, specifies the ARS. It is sprayed into a “mist” which falls to the ground following half an hour. Residents are asked:

to stay at home during the spraying and up to 30 minutes followingwards, to bring in the laundry and toys to wash the outdoor furniture with plenty of water following spraying the insecticide to wait 2 days before eating the fruits and vegetables from the garden, and to wash them before.

In the event of suspected allergic reaction (cough, burning sensation, dizziness, headache or nausea), the ARS recommends contacting your doctor or the Nancy poison control center.

Unlike its European cousin, the “classic” mosquito, the tiger mosquito aedes albopictus can be a vector of diseases: chikungunya, dengue fever, zika. It is therefore particularly monitored from May to November, which corresponds to its period of activity, during which it can transmit viruses following biting infected people.
