A 3-year-old girl reportedly died on Friday after being left alone in her bath for just a few moments, a sad reminder that a child can drown in as little as 20 centimeters of water, according to French public health.
Friday around 7:35 p.m., police officers from Gentilly, south of Paris, were called to go to a home where a 3-year-old girl had just been found unresponsive in her bath by her father, “Le Parisien” reported on Saturday .
According to what he told investigators, the father had probably been absent for just a few moments, before finding his little girl floating on the surface of the water on his return.
He would have immediately started first aid while waiting for the firefighters to arrive, and the little girl would have regurgitated water, according to the French media.
She was then transported to a hospital in critical condition, “after a long cardiac arrest and an extremis recovery”, but did not survive her drowning, according to what “Le Parisien” learned on Sunday.
