Qena – Abdul Rahman Al Qurashi:

A medical source in Qena said that the disease spread in the village of Naga Sandal is a type of fever transmitted by the female mosquito known scientifically as “Aedes aegypti”, and its symptoms include a feeling of “heat and a feeling of cracking in the body.”

The source added that the female mosquito itself is of different species, including the “spotted” that transmits the disease less to humans.

The source pointed out that the mosquito breeds in places where stagnant water, garbage, uncovered drainage, and open tanks gather, so the best control methods are to improve the level of general hygiene and work to prevent the presence of garbage, swamps and stagnant water, and transmit the disease through its stings to the human body, and then move to the last events of the same matter.

Ahmed Salim, a resident of the village of Naga Sandal, said: “The people of the village used to use open water tanks, which promoted the spread of infection and the reproduction of mosquito larvae in these tanks, indicating that health and professional authorities deployed sterilization and prevention teams to limit the spread of the disease and eliminate it.”

Selim added that there is a possibility that the cause of the disease spread following the return of a number of people who spent their summer vacation in the cities of Safaga and Hurghada, and they brought the disease from there, and mosquitoes helped spread it in the village.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, told the media during his field visit to Qena Governorate, yesterday, Monday, saying, “There is absolutely no cause for concern inside Nagaa Sandal in Qena. The injuries are simple and all are stable cases, and they are recovering inside the homes.”

The minister added, “The sterilization and prevention teams are conducting a complete survey of the village to eliminate mosquitoes that transmit the disease and sterilize stagnant water. An independent education team is also raising awareness of the people regarding prevention and treatment of symptoms of infection, and all necessary medicines have been provided within the health unit.”
