And how to avoid such an allergic reaction.

Many are faced with such an unpleasant problem as an allergy to the sun. How to recognize it and how to treat it? Yuliana Albertovna Nikolenko, a dermatologist at the Podology Clinic Polet, tells readers of Health Mail.ru.

Allergic sun dermatitis is caused by increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity). As a rule, following exposure to the sun or in a solarium, itching, redness, and blisters begin.

It is worth noting that the sun’s rays themselves are not an allergen, they only provoke its formation, and how exactly the reaction manifests itself depends on the sensitivity of the skin.

For many, a little contact with the sun or a source of artificial light is enough for a reaction to occur. Usually, it is 5-10 minutes. Individual or confluent blisters appear on the skin, which either disappear spontaneously within 1 hour or persist for a long time. There is also delayed-type solar urticaria: 2-3 days following exposure.

Taking medications can also cause allergies to the sun: anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin), antibiotics, antidepressants, oral contraceptives, and others.

Factors affecting sensitivity to ultraviolet rays (photosensitivity) can be different. These include reduced immunity, and hypovitaminosis, and diseases of the liver and adrenal glands, and autoimmune diseases, and endocrine disorders.

Most often, closed areas of the body are affected, which are rarely exposed to the sun’s rays. And for the skin of the face and hands, insolation is familiar.

If you encounter a similar reaction, in the first place, you must exclude or minimize contact with sunlight or artificial radiation.

Treatment of chronic allergic dermatitis is carried out only following a thorough examination and identification of factors contributing to the development of the reaction. Antihistamines, external anti-inflammatory and hormonal drugs are used.

Acute forms are treated with creams, gels, foams containing healing and analgesic components.

If you are aware of your peculiarity, try not to sunbathe, wear closed clothes, hats and use sunscreen.
