85% of deaths are due to these diseases

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khaled Ait Taleb, presented on Tuesday in Rabat the situation of non-communicable diseases in Morocco and the multi-sectoral action plan for the prevention and monitoring of non-communicable diseases 2023-2024. The national epidemiological situation related to non-communicable diseases and their risk factors remains worrying, especially cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases. It is estimated that 85% of deaths can be attributed to these diseases, and premature mortality in the population aged 30 to 70 years is 24%.

Faced with this reality, the national multisectoral strategy for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases 2019-2029, developed and implemented in a participatory and proactive way, represents an important model for integrating health into all policies. Intervention efforts in this area have been strengthened by the signing of the National Charter for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases by 17 strategic partners, including 11 government sectors, two public institutions and four non-governmental organizations.

The signatories of this charter expressed their commitment to implement measures and provide appropriate conditions for health and the population to prevent and control non-communicable diseases and reduce associated risk factors, including unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, tobacco and alcohol.
