The good news, however, is that it seems that the medical community agrees that 4 out of 10 cancer cases might be prevented by changing one’s lifestyle.
“In 2015, there were approximately 70,000 cases of cancer that might have been prevented,” explains Frédéric Picotte, family doctor in Shawinigan.
In numbers
30 000 tobacco-related cancer cases
12 000 cancer cases linked to physical inactivity
7000 cancer cases linked to low fruit intake
3500 cancer cases linked to low vegetable intake
4000 cancer cases linked to being overweight
“We have the tools to prevent these cancers, it’s quite simple and we have the recipe,” explains Dr. Picotte.
Moreover, according to the doctor, “the recipe” he is talking regarding is quite simple. It reminds everyone to prioritize physical activity, healthy eating and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
