A 17-year-old Virginia girl was killed by her ex-boyfriend, weeks after she filed a restraining order against him.

Two days before celebrating her 18th birthday, Serenity Hawley was found dead in her vehicle Thursday, in a parking lot on University City Boulevard, alongside her ex-boyfriend Croney Monk, a football player at Blacksburg High School.

The suspect, who allegedly harassed and threatened her on numerous occasions, allegedly shot Serenity in the chest, then turned the gun towards himself and inflicted the same fate on himself, according to information reported by the media 10 News.

“He was constantly on social media. He was blackmailing her, telling her he was going to show this and that. “It’s not the kind of thing children should do,” insists Serenity’s father, according to the Daily Mail.

A Gofundme was organized by the family of Serenity Halwey. The money was to be used for their daughter’s funeral, as well as a scholarship in her memory. The family has raised more than $21,495 US ($29,660 CAN) so far.
