According to the Mexico City Health Secretariat (SEDESA), the ovarian cancer It is the second cause of death for women in Mexico and its symptoms are similar to gastrointestinal diseases.

Between 70 and 80 percent of the Mexican patients who suffer from it are between 30 and 60 years old and many times it is detected at an advanced age, when the tumor has already spread. Given this, here we mention these tips so that you can prevent this “silent disease”.

How to prevent ovarian cancer?

Dr. Mendez Herreraan academic from the Department of Embryology, of the Faculty of Medicine, of the UNAM, lamented that “there is no prevention strategy for the general population.”

And in the face of this evil, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention pointed out that there is nothing that can prevent this disease, although there are factors that are associated with a lower probability of contracting it and these are:

  • have taken birth control pills for five years or more.
  • have undergone surgical procedures tubal ligation (tubal ligation), ovary removal, or hysterectomy (operation to remove the uterus and sometimes the cervix).
  • Haber given birth.
  • Breastfeeding. (may have moderately lower risk).

However, women should be checked if they begin to have these sensations:

  • Persistent pelvic inflammation
  • Experiencing early satiety or fullness
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain when having sex
  • abnormal transvaginal bleeding
  • Fatigue
  • Stomach problems
  • Back pain
  • Constipation
  • Changes in menstrual periods
  • Bloating with weight loss

Although these symptoms can also be confused by benign diseases or by cancer in other organs.

“If a woman presents these symptoms more than 12 times a month, she should consult her doctor, preferably a gynecologist,” said the UNAM Foundation.

Being able to detect ovarian cancer is a challenge because there are no specific biomarkers, for this reason Mexico registers between four thousand annual cases of this disease and it is three times more lethal than breast cancer.

In addition to being the “third cause of mortality from neoplasms in Mexican women,” warned the gynecologist-oncologist attached to the Oncology service of the National Institute of Perinatology (Inper), Ana Cristina Arteaga Gomez.

Users interested in taking the test can go to the Health Center closest to their home, where they will receive guidance to obtain medical care.
