Although aging is a natural and biological process to which no one escapes, the adoption of healthy habits is key so that it does not register in an accelerated or premature way. Drinking plenty of water, eating healthy and exercising are practices that should not be missing from anyone’s life routine.

The effects of sugar

This product causes aging due to the negative effects it has on the skin. This is due to the glycation process. A study from the University of Navarra defines this term as a “spontaneous reaction of blood glucose with dermal collagen and elastin fibers.”

What this means, according to a publication in GQ magazine, is that when consuming sugar, it adheres to proteins in the body and damages them over time, which affects collagen and elastin, substances that keep the skin in healthy condition.

It is important to bear in mind that the sugar naturally present in foods such as fruits does not act in the same way as the refined sugar found in some processed or industrial products, which is actually harmful to the body.

Bad habits

In addition to the consumption of sugar and other foods such as refined flours, excessive caffeine and processed meats, other unhealthy habits affect premature aging.

Smoking: Studies published by the National Library of Medicine and the US National Institutes of Health state that smoking restricts the flow of pure blood and oxygen needed for skin cell rejuvenation, thereby depleting skin vital nutrients. Not enough sleep: sleeping a few hours causes dark circles, but also affects the beauty of the skin. The cells of the epidermis have a circadian rhythm, just like sleep, so if the person does not get enough sleep, these cells cannot repair themselves from all the effects generated throughout the day. Not using sun protection: exposure to ultraviolet rays is the main cause of premature aging and therefore the recommendation of experts is always to use a sunscreen with a protection index between 30 and 50 when outdoors.
