Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart Joe Biden reached a series of agreements on Monday to maintain bilateral dialogue and coordination in various fields, and exchanged views on the Ukraine issue.
During their meeting held in the Indonesian resort of Bali, before the start of the 17th Summit of the Group of Twenty (G20), the two leaders agreed that their respective diplomatic teams must maintain strategic communication and hold regular consultations.
In addition, they agreed that their financial teams will continue dialogue and coordination on macroeconomic policies, economic ties and trade, and that both countries will work together for the full success of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
They also reached agreement on the deployment of dialogue and cooperation in public health, agriculture and food security, and agreed to make good use of the China-U.S. joint working group. to promote the resolution of more specific issues.
Likewise, they agreed on the utmost importance of cultural and inter-societal exchanges, and committed to encouraging the expansion of personnel exchange in all sectors.
Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Xi noted that China is very concerned regarding the current situation in that country, recalling the four points to be done that he had proposed shortly following the outbreak of the crisis and the four things that the international community should do, suggested by him recently.
In the face of a global and compound crisis like the current one in Ukraine, he continued, it is important to seriously reflect on three points. First, in a conflict or war there are no winners; second, there are no simple solutions to a complicated problem; and third, confrontation between large countries must be avoided.
Xi stressed that China has always stood on the side of peace and will continue to promote peace talks.
In this regard, China supports and hopes for a resumption of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, and hopes that the US, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union will conduct comprehensive dialogues with Moscow, he pointed out.
Both presidents described their meeting as profound, frank and constructive.
Furthermore, they have instructed their respective teams to immediately follow up and implement the important consensuses reached between them and take concrete actions to put China-US relations back on track. US to the path of stable development.
