The prosecution, which investigates the ‘suspicion of false interviews’ between Kim Man-bae, a major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, and Shin Hak-rim, former head of the media union, formed a ‘special investigation team for the presidential election intervention and public opinion manipulation case’.

On the 7th, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had formed a special investigation team of regarding 10 prosecutors with expertise in defamation of elections belonging to the Central District Prosecutor’s Office, with the chief prosecutor of the 3rd anti-corruption investigation department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office as the team leader.

Former Chairman Shin is accused of receiving 160 million won from Man-bae Kim, a major shareholder of Hwacheon Dae-yu, in September 2021, and conducting an interview in which Mr. Kim tells false facts.

During the Busan Savings Bank investigation in 2011, Yoon Seok-yeol, then head of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, cleared the investigation of Jo Woo-hyung, the chief of the Daejang-dong project.

This content was reported through Newstapa in March of last year, three days before the presidential election.

Prosecutors believe that Shin received 165 million won from Mr. Kim in return for this, and that the contract was falsely written as if he had bought three books six months before the interview.

The special investigation team for the prosecution’s involvement in the presidential election and manipulation of public opinion is expected to investigate the details of the interview and whether political figures were involved in the future.
