Presidential: after the withdrawal of Taubira, the popular Primary supports Mélenchon

They had announced “refuse to waste five years on issues of social justice, ecology and democracy. If the right wins, we know we are digging our grave.” The organizers of the popular Primary had wanted to react in the wake of the abandonment, in the presidential race, on Wednesday, of Christina Taubira, for lack of sufficient sponsorship (500).

In a press release issued this Saturday, around thirty representatives of the Popular Primary, which had brought together more than 400,000 voters, decided to support the campaign of the Popular Union, that of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The terms of this support have yet to be specified. The rebellious candidate had however arrived behind Yannick Jadot during the consultation.

The organizers of this popular initiative thus promise to be “in the streets throughout the month, in particular on March 8 for the feminist strike, on March 12 for the “Look up” climate marches throughout France and on March 25 for the global climate strike”.

Yet came second, Jadot not supported

“We are acknowledging that the political gathering strategy that we have been carrying out for months has not worked because the candidates do not wish to come together before the first round, they regret in this press release. The Popular Primary today chooses to support and campaign for the Popular Union (by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, editor’s note), the best political vehicle for winning our ideas in the presidential election”.

Asked by our colleagues from BFMTV on the sidelines of the demonstration in support of Ukraine, Yannick Jadot did not show frank disappointment when he learned of the rallying of the Popular Primary to Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “I leave them to their internal grubs,” he commented, adding that he never really understood where they were going with their initiative.

However, the organizing association announces that it “will be mobilized in the front line between two rounds to build a broad coalition of the left and environmentalists around a government agreement and a legislative contract representative of the togetherness and diversity. It will remain the trusted third party capable of bringing together the left and environmentalists, ”she promises.
