President Yoon Seok-yeol said, “I feel sorry and there is no way to suppress my sadness” at the news of a firefighter who died while conducting fire rescue work in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do on the night of the 6th.

President Yoon said, “I pray for the deceased’s rest and convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” said Presidential Office Spokesman Lee Do-woon in a written briefing on the 7th.

President Yoon ordered, “The government should not only provide the deceased with the utmost courtesy on their way, but also do their best to come up with measures to prevent a recurrence so that such unfortunate incidents do not happen once more.”

Firefighter Seong-il, 30, who was appointed last year, died while extinguishing a fire in a house in Gimje the night before. When the rescued grandmother said, “There is a grandfather inside,” the castle firefighter ran into the house, but she was unable to escape and was found dead with her grandfather.
