President Yoon Seok-yeol effectively vetoed the proposal for the dismissal of Foreign Minister Park Jin.
The possibility of expressing regret over the prolonged ‘slang controversy’ was replaced with ‘silent and unanswered’.
At a briefing on the way to work in Yongsan’s presidential office on the 29th, President Yoon said, “I think the people will know for themselves what is right and what is wrong,” regarding the Democratic Party’s proposal to dismiss foreign minister Park Jin. He dismissed the opposition’s demand for sacking, saying, “He is a man who works hard for his sake.”
Although he did not directly mention it, it is interpreted that the possibility of exercising the right to veto the dismissal proposal was left open, and the injuries of the opposition parties are expected to intensify.
President Yoon also did not respond to a reporter’s question, “Do you plan to express your regrets over the prolonged controversy over profane language?” that surfaced during a tour of New York in the United States last week.
Although some of the president’s office aides expressed the opinion that it was appropriate to express their regrets over the controversy, it is known that the general opposition to expressing regret is stronger.
When asked regarding his position on the controversy over profanity on the 26th, when President Yoon went to work for the first time on the 26th, he said, “Damaging the alliance with reports that are different from the facts puts the people at risk. I think it should be clarified.”
He directly led the counterattack, seeing that a certain media company tried to undermine the ROK-U.S. alliance by distorting the contents of his unofficial remarks and driving it into a diplomatic disaster.
President Kim Dae-ki, chief of staff, also met with reporters this followingnoon, reflecting this current, and repeatedly defining the controversy as ‘fake news’, saying, “(President Yoon) himself cannot remember well.” We are taking a serious look at it because it may cause separation,” he continued his offensive mode once morest the media.
However, Director Kim did not give a specific answer on how to resolve the controversy. Instead, MBC indirectly stated that there should be a statement of position.
