President Xi continued his busy bilateral talks on Friday and Saturday.

First, we met with President Al-Assad of Syria and promised cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

The close relationship with Syria, which harshly suppressed anti-government protesters, drew the attention of the international community and a backlash from Taiwan.

President Xi then exchanged pleasantries with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Al-Sabah, and met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) Chairman Bach and Acting Chairman of the Asian Olympic Committee Xing to emphasize the importance of sports exchanges.

The morning after the Asian Games opening ceremony, we met with Cambodian King Sihamoni and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Gusmaung to strengthen our friendship.

In the afternoon, he had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Han Deok-soo and then Nepalese Prime Minister Dahal, delivering a message of hope for expanded mutual exchange and cooperation.

President Xi Jinping has especially upgraded diplomatic relations with Syria to a strategic partnership and with East Timor to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

It is interpreted as a ploy to expand influence against the West, including the United States, in the Middle East and South Pacific.

They seemed to be focusing on building allies through two days of bilateral talks held four times a day.
