Chinese President Xi Jinping met South Korean Prime Minister Han Deok-soo in Hangzhou today (23rd) and said that the relationship between the two countries is “an inseparable partnership.”
According to China’s state-run CCTV and South Korea’s Prime Minister’s Office, President Xi met with Prime Minister Han somewhere in downtown Hangzhou on the occasion of the 19th Asian Games and said, “China and Korea are close neighbors who cannot move,” and “inseparable partners.”
President Xi also said that stabilizing China-ROK relations serves the common interests of the two peoples, and that he will work with South Korea to develop a strategic cooperative partnership.
Prime Minister Han said in his remarks on this day, “As a neighboring country, I hope for the successful hosting of the Hangzhou Asian Games,” and added, “The smooth continuation of high-level exchanges and communication is important as it shows the two countries’ active will to develop Korea-China relations.”
He then emphasized the importance of Korea-China cooperation, saying, “Both countries are jointly facing global challenges such as heightened tensions in the region due to North Korea’s continuous provocations, as well as global economic uncertainty and supply chain disruption.”
He also said that this conveys President Yoon Seok-yeol’s special greetings.
Korean media, including Yonhap News, reported that the meeting lasted 22 minutes.
Prime Minister Han Deok-soo arrived in Hangzhou this morning to attend the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games as a representative of the Korean government.
