Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong said that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who recently visited Korea, showed a strong will to cooperate in the defense and nuclear power fields besides construction.

Minister Won said, “The concept proposed by President Yoon Seok-yeol is a combination of weapons system levels of joint development and joint production.”

In the case of nuclear power plants, Minister Won said that Saudi Arabia is asking for activeness.

Saudi Arabia, which is pushing ahead with the construction of the second nuclear power plant, plans to receive letters of intent from each country in December.

Prior to this, the Korean government, Russia, France, and China sent a request for participation in a nuclear power plant construction bid to hear their intentions for construction.

Minister Won said, “There are issues that need to be resolved because there are international organizations and the US position that Saudi Arabia’s nuclear power plants should reflect the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.”

Regarding orders such as construction and infrastructure, he predicted, “At the earliest, in December or January or February, orders worth several trillion won or agreements greater than a business agreement (MOU) will be made.”

Regarding Indonesia, which he visited on the occasion of the G20 summit last week, he explained that bold follow-up work would continue to come out, including the construction of Jakarta heavy rail line 4, as well as housing and transportation system cooperation necessary for the capital relocation to Borneo.
