Due to these audios, a strong political crisis has been generated in the country, especially due to the information that he said regarding the 15,000 million pesos that he said he obtained for the campaign and whose origin is not clear.

In this sense, the Head of State spoke on his social networks and shared three conclusions in this regard. On the one hand, he said that “Laura has received enormous pressure that she was unaware of. She must have suffered and suffers a lot.”

In the audios that were released, Benedetti is repeatedly heard insulting Laura Sarabia and complaining regarding the treatment she was receiving from the president and her, as chief of staff at that time.

“Now I understand why you don’t want to take me there to Colombia, because I’m going to take away your son… well, your son… well, you can stick it up your ass, because no one takes that position but losers like you.”

Benedetti constantly insults her and refers to an interview that Sarabia gave to EL TIEMPO in which he distanced himself from Benedetti and other politicians. “Listen, Laura, I never thought you were so silly, Laura, uh, you keep saying all day that the position you’re in has nothing to do with me, no one believes that. In other words, that If you were president or a senator tomorrow, you would not owe Petro anything because Petro went to Australia and did not give you a penny from the campaign,” he said.

Then he adds: “(…) Of course you owe it all to me, because I was born as well, because I am the one who takes you to Petro. I am the one who makes you known, or would someone have happened to you? phone if you had arrived alone where Petro? Not a single person”.

Petro, on the other hand, says that Benedetti “is wrong to think that Laura set up the cabinet.” “I always did and I do,” she pointed out.

Petro talks regarding financing

The President, in his publication, stated: “In the two interviews, Benedetti affirms that he helped to obtain donations to the campaign and that there were no irregularities. It is true, every time someone asked to donate or obtain donors, they were sent to management, where they always were made according to the law, the filters”.

Petro also said that in said management “many donations were rejected and according to the criteria of the law, others were accepted. Most of the financing of the campaign was made with loans from commercial banks,” he concluded.

Despite the above, in the country there are sectors that are asking for more specific explanations from the President to clarify where those 15,000 million pesos came from that, according to Benedetti, he got for the campaign.

Even from the Congress of the Republic, complaints once morest the President for this situation have already been announced. Senator Miguel Uribe, of the Democratic Center, and former presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez indicated that they will file a complaint once morest the head of state before the Commission on Accusations of the House of Representatives. This because allegedly the alleged crime of illegal financing would have been committed.

“Heading to Bogotá to file a complaint with the Commission on Accusations of the House of Representatives to investigate the possible commission of crimes related to illegal financing of Petro’s presidential campaign (possibly money from drug trafficking),” Gutiérrez said on the morning of this 5th June.
