The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Madurocalled on the military on Tuesday to be alert and respond with “union” before an alleged plan of “fascist groups” who intend to create violence in the country, but did not offer details about this complaint.
“What these fascist groups did recently shows that they have a plan to bring us back to the violence of the guarimbas (protests), at the time of intolerance, of confrontation, of the useless conflict of division among Venezuelans, and we are not going to do it. to allow”, said the president, in Caracas.
The appeal was made during an act of promotion of 251 members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), in which he asked the Defense Minister, Vladimir Padrino Lopezanswer who “They are launching messages to divide again” to the military institution.
“I authorize the FANB to respond to fascism, the coup and imperialism. It responds with unity, with morality, on the street, with force and to tell them clearly that they do not mess with the Armed Forces”insisted the head of state without explaining what the messages in question are or who has delivered them.
“Coup plotters and fascists who denigrate our military (…) whoever messes with the peace of the republic must have the answer in the clear word, in the order, in the clear command of the entire military leadership,” added.
During the decade that Maduro has been in power, Venezuela has experienced several waves of anti-government protests, branded as “guarimbas” by the Executive, some of which left dozens of deaths, especially in the years 2014, 2017 and 2019, when the political tension was greater.
