President Moon Jae-in will spend the last night of his term in a place other than the Blue House.
This seems to be because the elected Yoon Seok-yeol decided that it was unreasonable to spend the night at the Blue House as the presidential office decided to completely open the Blue House from 00:00 on May 10, the beginning of his term.
“President Moon will leave the Blue House following taking office on May 9 to attend the inauguration ceremony on May 10, and move to Yangsan’s private residence,” Blue House spokesman Park Kyung-mi said in a written briefing on the same day.
At first, attention was focused on where President Moon, who does not have a private residence in Seoul, would spend the last night of his inauguration, he decided to leave the Blue House in advance.
However, it has not been decided where President Moon will be staying that night. It might be a hotel or a friend’s house.
Previously, former Presidents Chun Doo-hwan, Roh Tae-woo, and Roh Moo-hyun stayed at the Blue House until the last day of their tenure, and then left the Blue House following attending the inauguration ceremony of their successor. Former Presidents Kim Young-sam, Kim Dae-jung, and Lee Myung-bak left for their private residence in the followingnoon of the last day of their tenure as their in-laws were all in Seoul, and they attended the inauguration ceremony of the new president the next day.
Right following attending the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Yoon on the 10th, President Moon is expected to use the KTX to go to the newly built private residence in Pyeongsan Village, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam.
It is reported that Oh Jong-sik, the planning secretary, was selected as the chief of staff living down to Yangsan with President Moon. Choi Sang-young, the second assistant secretary, and Shin Hye-hyun, deputy spokesperson, are also likely to join the Yangsan train.
Meanwhile, at the Cabinet meeting on the 3rd, a portrait of President Moon, drawn as a gift by a young artist working in the provinces, will be unveiled. Portraits of President Moon will be hung along with portraits of past presidents.
