Today (22nd), President Moon Jae-in presides over the National Security Council (NSC) plenary meeting at the Blue House at 11 am to discuss countermeasures to the Ukraine crisis.

At today’s meeting, attended by foreign and security ministries as well as major economic ministries, it is known that the overall situation in Ukraine will be reviewed and countermeasures will be discussed.

On the 21st (local time), Russian President Vladimir Putin officially approved the independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), founded by pro-Russian separatist rebels in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

This has raised concerns that Russia might invade Ukraine following supporting these republics as an independent government.

The United States immediately protested once morest Russia’s measures and suggested economic sanctions. The European Union (EU) has also been criticized one following another.
