President Moon Jae-in said, “Cooperation between Korea and Japan is the responsibility of the present generation for future generations.

President Moon Jae-in said today in his speech commemorating the 103rd anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement Day, saying, “At this time of many difficulties, Korea and Japan should be able to overcome their unhappy past and work together toward the future.”

To this end, he stressed, “Japan must face history and be humble before it,” he said.

“Our government will always keep the door open for dialogue to respond to global challenges such as Corona and supply chain crises as well as regional peace and prosperity,” he promised.

“As the international order fluctuates and nationalism rises, concerns regarding a new Cold War are growing,” he said.

“Peace on the Korean Peninsula is what we absolutely need to become stronger,” he said.

“If we do not lose our will, we can surely achieve denuclearization and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said. “We will never repeat the pain of 100 years ago.”

Today’s ceremony was held at the newly opened National Memorial Hall of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

In the midst of the corona crisis, President Moon added, “All the people who have endured the inconveniences of everyday life are the protagonists in overcoming the crisis.
