President Maduro flagged off athletes for the 2024 Paris Olympics

Yulimar Rojas and Julio Mayora will carry the Venezuelan flag at the opening ceremony

Sports.- At an event held at the Miraflores Palace, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro led the flag-raising ceremony of the Venezuelan delegation of athletes that will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Julio César León Aranguren, the first Venezuelan athlete to compete in the 1948 London Olympics, was decorated at the age of 99 He highlighted his career as a glory in sport and his pioneering role in representing Venezuela

He also carried the flags of the outstanding athletes, Yulimar Rojas and Julio Mayora, who will carry the Venezuelan flag at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Likewise, Lisbeli Vera and Luis Rodríguez will be the flag bearers at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

For her part, Yulimar Rojas thanked President Maduro “for taking us to Paris. Venezuela is great in sports, and our athletes hope to go far with determination and passion,” she said.

Lisbeli Vera also expressed her gratitude and expressed the honor of being the flag bearer for the Paralympic Games: “Thank you President, it has been a long road to qualify for Paris 2024being selected as the flag bearer is an honour. We will give our all to hold Venezuela high.”

The event was attended by the Minister of People’s Power for Youth and Sports, Mervin Maldonado; the President of the Olympic Committee, athlete María José Soto; the President of the Paralympic Committee, Juan José Rujano Ojeda; the Ambassador of the French Republic, Emmanuel Pineda, among other authorities.
