TEACHER at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) Dwi Andreas Santoso believes that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has paid little attention to improving the welfare of farmers during his time in office.

“In the meantime there is no significant improvement (for) them (farmers),” said Andreas in a Crosscheck by Medcom.id discussion with the theme ‘Dynasty Becomes, People’s Court Awaits’ which was broadcast on Sunday (17/3).

Andreas said that he had often been called by Jokowi to ask for suggestions for improvements in the food sector since 2014. However, the Head of State’s steps never matched the expectations of the presentation he gave.

“So, several times I was asked for input from him and Pak Jokowi during his leadership period and it turned out to be quite different from the hopes we conveyed to the President regarding farmer welfare issues,” said Andreas.

He also said that Jokowi had recorded the largest rice import history for 25 years. Of course, the fate of farmers cannot become more prosperous.

“The food issue has really emerged recently, starting in 2023 with the largest rice imports in the last 25 years,” said Andreas.

Therefore, he refused to be invited to join the government’s practical political concept. Because the fate of farmers is still considered bad in the Jokowi era.

“Our farmers are the lowest layer in this country,” said Andreas. (Z-3)
