PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the red edible oil factory in Pagar Merbau District, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Thursday (14/3). This is the first red edible oil factory to operate in the country.
“I am happy, this red cooking oil is cheaper than cooking oil on the market. This means that this product can compete in the market,” said Jokowi, at the inauguration.
The President said that the red edible oil factory would add value to the country. In particular, it can add value for palm oil farmers.
“This is the first time (operating in Indonesia) and is in the form of a cooperative,” he added.
It is known that the red edible oil factory is managed by farmers and cooperative members. Apart from being the first in the country, the red edible oil factory in Pagar Merbau also has quite a large processing capacity, reaching 10 tons per day.
According to Jokowi, red edible oil has several advantages and one of them is that the price is cheaper than ordinary edible oil. Red edible oil contains various vitamins.

Starting from vitamin A, vitamin E and various other ingredients. Several chefs have also tried red edible oil and the chefs say that red edible oil is different from ordinary ones and can make dishes tastier.
Hassanudin, Acting Governor of North Sumatra, on that occasion said that the red edible oil factory in Pagar Merbau is a downstream industry based on people’s cooperatives.
“Farmers bring their agricultural products directly here,” he said.

The increase in the downstream ecosystem in North Sumatra, he continued, will encourage improvement in the community’s economy. Because of this, the North Sumatra Provincial Government is also currently strengthening its downstream-based economic structure, especially agriculture.
Moreover, the agricultural potential in North Sumatra is very large so that if agricultural products are processed into derivative products, it will be able to improve North Sumatra’s economy significantly.
The inauguration of the red edible oil pilot factory in Pagar Merbau is one of Jokowi’s work agenda in North Sumatra this time. The President accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo arrived at Kualanamu International Airport, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Thursday (14/3), at around 09.15 WIB.

From the airport, the President and his entourage went straight to the red edible oil factory in Pagar Merbau. After that, Jokowi continued his journey to Tanjungbalai City using the Indonesian Air Force’s Super Puma helicopter.
In Tanjungbalai City, President Jokowi visited the Wire Market and inaugurated a number of roads in North Sumatra Province.
