President Gustavo Petro’s Controversial Message: The Future of Israel and Hamas Truce Negotiations

President Gustavo Petro published a message on his X account (formerly Twitter) that amplifies a message that means the annihilation of the State of Israel. “From the river to the sea,” says the graphic message shared by the president.

The Israeli ambassador to Colombia, Gali Dagan, referred precisely to the meaning of that phrase. “From the river to the sea” is not a simple slogan, it is a call for the annihilation of the state of Israel. It means, only one state between the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea – a Palestinian state. In other words, there is no place for the state of Israel. The leader of the terrorist organization himself says it #HamasIsmail Haniyeh”.

The Israeli official published a video on his X account, in which Ismail Haniyeh is seen giving a strong speech to several people who applaud each of his words. The man is on top of a stage and in the back you can see several Palestinian flags.

“These are not just slogans, this is our path, our truth. Those are our principles, our ideology. We will not give in,” Haniyeh pronounced. The words unleashed an uproar among those present, who in unison declared: “Death to Israel.”

The truce could continue

Gali Dagan’s message comes in the midst of the truce that Israel and Hamas reached a few days ago and that has allowed the release of several hostages of the Jewish nation and even foreigners.

This extension allowed the handover on Tuesday night of twelve hostages in the hands of the Islamist group (ten Israelis and two Thais) and 30 Palestinian prisoners, including a 14-year-old.

As Hamas announced this Wednesday, they are willing to extend the truce for another four days and release more hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, although so far there is no known new agreement between Israel and the extremist movement.

The spokesman for the office of the Prime Minister of Israel, Eylon Levy, indicated this Wednesday that the Government estimates that there are 161 hostages still in Hamas captivity.

Among them are fifteen foreigners, according to these calculations, although many of the Israeli captives would have dual nationality, explains Levy. Likewise, he specified that the total number includes 126 men, 35 women and eight 20-year-olds.

On the other hand, a source in the prime minister’s office announced that Israel would pressure Hamas to release as part of the current agreement the women and minors who remain kidnapped before expanding any negotiations regarding adult men and soldiers.
