Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani arrived in the German city of Hamburg from France on Saturday evening.
The Mauritanian news agency said President Ghazouani was beginning a “friendship and working visit” to Germany at the invitation of the German president.
President Ghazouani came from Paris where he participated in the 19th session of the International Organization of La Francophonie alongside his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and leaders of a number of countries.
Germany funds development projects in Mauritania, linked to traditional fishing port infrastructure and port modernization, vocational training and skills development, as well as clean energy, minerals and the environment .
Mauritania has signed a 19 million euro agreement with the German Development Bank to finance traditional fishing projects in the country.
The agreement stipulates that 12% of the total amount will be allocated to finance traditional fishing projects, while 7 million euros of the amount will be used for training human resources, according to the agreement.
In March, Mauritania and Germany signed a complementary agreement to finance a project to modernize the artisanal fishing port of Nouadhibou worth 2 million euros.
The agreement aims to increase the availability of fish for direct human consumption.
