The President of the Republic Evariste Ndayishimiye joined the Christians of the Giheta parish in a mass to open the jubilee year of 100 years of existence of this ecclesiastical district. The mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Gitega Monsignor Bonaventure Nahimana. In his homily, this prelate spoke of the meaning of the Jubilee Year before retracing some highlights that marked the first steps in the creation of the said parish in 1923 by Monsignor Julien Gorju, First Bishop of Burundi.
As for the meaning of the Jubilee Year in the life of a Christian, Bishop Nahimana hinted that it is a time of joy, of collective forgiveness and the erasure of all shortcomings for a new beginning for those who would be slipped into public sins thus depriving themselves of the sacraments intended to strengthen the spirituality of Christians.
It is important to mention that in his childhood, the President of the Republic Evariste Ndayishimiye, was baptized and was a Christian of the latter before the parish of Murayi was created so that some of the Christians would be assigned to Murayi, including the President’s family. Ndayishimiye.
The parish of Giheta gave birth to the parishes of Musshasha, Makebuko, Kibumbu and Murayi.
