La Moneda confirmed that President Gabriel Boric has not ruled out taking other types of “actions” following Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab reiterated his criticism of the investigation being carried out in Chile into the murder of former military officer and opponent of Nicolás Maduro’s regime, Ronald Ojeda.

The prosecutor said in conversation with Mega that the investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, led by Ángel Valencia, is “extremely poor,” confirming his position – which he has expressed without showing evidence – that the kidnapping and murder was planned by Chilean intelligence.

His remarks caused controversy once more in our country, where they did not even find support from the leadership of the Communist Party. Its president, Lautaro Carmona, said that “it does not contribute to a positive synergy.”

“We want the States to exchange constructively to fight effectively on a major issue, which is the fight once morest organized crime. The rest, (…) does not seem to me to contribute,” he postulated.

Christian Democrat MP Eric Aedo was more critical, insisting on reviewing diplomatic relations between the two countries, in light of what he described as “a real provocation to Chile.”

“Chile must review its diplomatic relations with Venezuela. I know that there are divergent opinions on this, but it seems to me that this is frankly an affront to our country that a dictatorial regime even hints that the Chilean State – they have even spoken of Chilean agents – might be behind this kidnapping and murder,” he added.
