President Biden’s Motorcade Incident: Unintentional Crash in Wilmington

Apparently the incident occurred involuntarily and did not represent any danger to the US president.

A car unintentionally crashed into a pickup truck in President Joe Biden’s motorcade Sunday night, causing damage to both vehicles and appearing to scare the president as he left his campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.

The US Secret Service confirmed that a vehicle in the motorcade was hit by another car as Biden was getting into his vehicle.

There was “no protection interest associated with this event,” Secret Service spokesman Steve Kopek told CNN in a statement, meaning the accident was unintentional. It had been raining a lot in Wilmington.

“Today, at approximately 8:09 pm, a Secret Service vehicle securing the route of the President’s motorcade was struck by another vehicle in Wilmington, DE. There was no protective interest associated with this event and the president’s motorcade departed without incident,” Kopek said, directing further questions to the Wilmington Police Department.

The crash caused a loud bang in the street and Biden looked up to see the commotion. The US Secret Service surrounded the silver sedan that caused the crash and told the driver to put his hands up, according to reporters traveling with Biden.

The truck hit was not the president’s. Secret Service personnel escorted the president to his vehicle, where first lady Jill Biden was already inside.

The Bidens had been visiting the 2024 presidential campaign headquarters, greeting staff at a Christmas happy hour.

It was the first time the president visited since staff began working in the Wilmington office over the summer.
