And Biden must have been high on something even at the debate. He couldn’t have handled it. He couldn’t have stood under the lights for that long, much less held any ideas in his head.”
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden’s family has urged him to ignore calls to resign following his disastrous debate with Republican rival Donald Trump.
Parts of the Democratic Party were left reeling after Biden’s rambling and at times incoherent performance at Thursday’s debate in Atlanta, and polls since then have shown that concerns about his age — he is 81 — have only grown.
A CBS News/YouGov poll found that nearly half of Americans think he should resign.
But his campaign team and family say Biden remains the Democratic Party’s best hope for defeating Trump.
A photo shoot of Biden’s family members with the participation of famous photographer Annie Leibovitz was held at the US presidential residence Camp David in Maryland. Among those present were Biden’s wife Jill, his children and grandchildren.
Jill Biden told Vogue in a phone call from Camp David that family members “won’t let these 90 minutes define the four years he’s been president.”
The Biden family will continue to fight, she said, adding that her husband “will always do what is best for the country.”
