Washington, United States.

President Joe Biden said this Friday that he is “very happy” about the release of two American hostages kidnapped during the attack on Israel by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

“Today we secured the release of two Americans taken hostage by Hamas during the horrific terrorist attack against Israel on October 7,” the US president said in a statement.

“Our compatriots have lived through a terrible experience these last 14 days and I am very happy that they will soon be reunited with their families,” he added.

Biden thanked Qatar, which hosts a Hamas political office and has previously brokered deals between the Palestinian group and Israel, and the Israeli government “for their partnership” in the release negotiations.

The president pledged that his administration will continue working toward the release of other Americans held by Hamas, whose exact number is unknown.

“We won’t stop until we bring your loved ones home,” he said.

Last week Biden met with some families of Hamas hostages.

The two women were kidnapped on October 7 while visiting the Nahal Oz kibbutz.

It is the first hostage release confirmed by both sides.

Some 200 Israeli, foreign and dual national hostages were kidnapped in Israel and taken to Gaza by Hamas fighters during the unprecedented October 7 attack, which sparked a war.

Since then, Israel has bombed the Gaza Strip to “annihilate” the Islamist movement.
