(Central News Agency, Washington, 20th, comprehensive foreign news reports) US President Biden stated today that he believes that the first batch of truck convoys transporting humanitarian supplies from Egypt will pass through the Rafah crossing to Gaza in the next two days.
Agence France-Presse reported that Biden said when meeting with European Union (EU) officials at the White House: “I believe that within the next 24 to 48 hours, the first 20 trucks will pass through the border.”
Biden said he had obtained commitments from the presidents of Israel and Egypt to allow aid supplies to pass through customs, but “the roads must be repaired and are in very bad condition.”
Michael Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Public Health Emergencies Program, pointed out that Biden’s 20-truck aid agreement is only a drop in the bucket, and what is needed is 2,000 trucks of supplies.
According to the United Nations, more than 1 million of Gaza’s 2.4 million people have been displaced, and the humanitarian situation is “more than a disaster” and is getting worse. (Translator: Xu Ruicheng) 1121021
