Yesterday, President Bashar al-Assad accepted the credentials of Hussein Akbari as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Syrian Arab Republic.
According to SANA, the credentials of the Iranian ambassador were accepted in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, and the Minister of Presidency Affairs, Mansour Azzam.
On the twelfth of this month, Akbari arrived in Damascus, to assume his duties as his country’s ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic, succeeding his predecessor, Mahdi Sobhani, who left on the eleventh of the same month.
In his first statement following his arrival in Damascus, Akbari told Al-Watan that Syria and Iran enjoy very close relations, and developments over the past four decades have demonstrated the strength of the alliance between the two countries.
Akbari pointed out that the priority in relations in the next stage will be the economic file, in a way that secures the interests of the two peoples and the two countries.
Akbari is an expert on regional affairs and previously served as his country’s ambassador to Libya.
On the eighth of this month, President al-Assad awarded the Iranian ambassador in Damascus, Mahdi Sobhani, the Syrian Order of Merit of the Excellent Class, in honor of his efforts in developing Syrian-Iranian relations, and for his dedication to performing his duties as his country’s ambassador to Syria.
In his speech, Sobhani considered that the honor reflects the distinguished relations between the two countries, stressing that the relations between Syria and Iran are deep and strategic, and have a wonderful historical background. He said: “In addition to the great cooperation in the political, military, economic, cultural, scientific, educational and popular fields, The history of relations between the two countries, which is that the two sides rushed to help each other in the historical turns and in the darkest circumstances, and this historical background led to the leaderships of the two countries reaching a common understanding in the joint relations and their management.
