President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s Efforts for Ceasefire in Gaza: Meeting with CIA Director and Qatari Foreign Minister

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, on Tuesday, coinciding with the Cairo meeting seeking a ceasefire in Gaza.

The meeting witnessed a review of developments in the current situation, where it was confirmed that intensive consultation and coordination would continue to achieve the goals of the ceasefire, protect civilians, and activate the two-state solution, in a way that enhances efforts to establish security and stability in the region, according to the Egyptian presidency.

Burns conveyed US President Joe Biden’s appreciation for Egypt’s tireless efforts to advance the path of calm in Gaza, a ceasefire and the exchange of detainees, in addition to its continued pivotal role in providing and introducing humanitarian aid to the Strip since the outbreak of the crisis.

In a separate meeting, Al-Sisi received the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani.

The official presidential spokesman stated that the meeting witnessed a review of efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and protecting civilians from the deteriorating conditions in the Strip.

The two sides reviewed joint efforts in this regard, as well as efforts to implement humanitarian aid.

Al-Sisi and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani stressed the extreme danger of the escalation of operations in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, and warned of the dire consequences of such a measure, in light of the risks it entails of exacerbating the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, while stressing the necessity of uniting international efforts to prevent the spread of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
