Preserving Indonesian Culture, Dekranas Chairman Emphasizes Important Role of Young Generation

CHAIRMAN of the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) Wury Ma’ruf Amin emphasized the importance of the role of the younger generation in preserving and developing Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

“Currently, more and more young craftsmen are inspired to explore, understand, and utilize the potential of traditional crafts. They are pioneers who will bring Indonesian culture to the world stage in new and innovative ways,” he said at the Opening of the 2024 Kriyanusa Nusantara Craft Exhibition: Young Crafters Preserve Cultural Heritage at the Jakarta Convention Center, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (28/08).

According to Wury, art and crafts from various regions in Indonesia not only reflect beauty and skill, but also the values ​​and identity of the nation. Therefore, the Ketum Dekranas emphasized the role of the younger generation in efforts to inherit national culture.

“This young generation is our hope to ensure that our cultural wealth not only survives, but also develops along with the changing times,” he stressed.

Wury hopes that the 2024 Kriyanusa Exhibition can be a means for young craftsmen to showcase their work and collaborate with each other.

“We hope to provide a platform for young artisans to showcase their work, learn from each other, and build mutually beneficial relationships,” he said.

As concrete evidence of support for young craftsmen, the Chairperson of the 2024 Kriyanusa Committee, Yanti Isfandiary Airlangga, stated that Dekranas had provided free booth quotas to 98 young craftsmen.

“Dekranas provides free booth quotas to 98 young craftsmen as a form of appreciation and support from Dekranas for the development of young craftsmen from all over Indonesia and the implementation of one of the main work programs of Dekranas, namely encouraging the regeneration of craftsmen,” he explained.

The 2024 Kriyanusa Exhibition is a concrete manifestation of Dekranas’ efforts to develop the capacity of craft business actors. According to Yanti, these efforts include encouraging the creation and development of local craft products, as well as preserving the cultural image of all regions in Indonesia.

“We express our appreciation and gratitude to the Chairperson of Dekranasda of East Kalimantan Province for his participation as the icon of Kriyanusa 2024,” he said.

The 2024 Kriyanusa Exhibition carries the theme Young Craftsmen Preserve Cultural Heritage, with the exhibition icon of East Kalimantan Province. The event was also attended by Senior Dekranas Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, Daily Chair of Dekranas Tri Tito Karnavian, Dekranas administrators, representatives of Dekranasda from all over Indonesia, administrators of the Solidarity Action Organization of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet Era (OASE KIM), representatives of embassies of friendly countries, as well as leaders of ministries and institutions, BUMN, associations, and the private sector.

The 2024 Kriyanusa Exhibition presents 444 exhibition booths consisting of 213 provincial, district and city Dekranasda booths, 42 foundation and individual booths, 20 booths from East Kalimantan Province, 58 young craftsmen booths, 8 sponsor booths, and 24 culinary booths.

The Kriyanusa Exhibition was also enlivened by workshops, fashion shows, talk shows, art performances, and dances from various regions, as well as musical performances from a number of national artists.

The 2024 Kriyanusa Exhibition will take place from August 28 to September 1, 2024 at Hall A and B of the Jakarta Convention Center. The exhibition can be visited by the public for free without any entrance fee. (RO/Z-3)
