No one in the neighborhood thought that one day the store would go bankrupt. And that the woodwork and furniture that give it its charm might be threatened. So much so that no request for classification of the interior of this store on Chaussée de Waterloo, in Ixelles, has been made. “Therefore, as long as the owner does not touch the structure of the building and does not modify the facade”, specifies town planning alderman Yves Rouyet (Ecolo), “he can do whatever he wants within his property.”
We meet the alderman on site. He was alerted by local residents, including the president of the neighborhood committee “Un ilôt, un district”, Claude Pirotte. Yves Rouyet also dispatched the director of the town planning department to the site. And the news is good! “The idea is to restore and preserve the interior furniture, which they are aware has a certain value,” reassures the town planning alderman. “And so much the better!”
Relief also for the neighborhood committee and Claude Pirotte: “This is information that I just learned. I am very happy regarding it. I will share it with the whole committee and if it can be restored to its current state, that would be wonderful.”
So check it out. Sometimes, in Brussels, there are heritage stories that end well.
