The Alienware AW420K is new. After all, the keyboard is the first tenkeyless gaming keyboard from the Dell-owned gaming division. It’s supposed to take on models like the ROCCAT Vulcan TKL Pro (our test) from fall 2022.
Alienware AW420K in detail
The Alienware AW420K TKL compact keyboard wants to excite gamers from autumn 2022. It turns out to be relatively compact with dimensions of 367.3 mm x 147.7 mm x 55.7 mm (width x depth x height) and weighs 787 grams.
It uses the TKL form factor and therefore does without a numeric keypad. However, you should not compromise on features. The height of the keyboard can even be adjusted to three levels using adjustable feet.
Cherry mechanical switches are used. Alienware opted for Cherry MX Red linear switches. These are supposed to withstand 100 million keystrokes without any problem.

The keyboard is also equipped with durable, high-quality double-shot PBT keycaps. However, the switches or keys don’t seem replaceable. The keyboard can only be connected to PC and laptop via USB Type-C and the sampling frequency is 1000 Hz. Full anti-ghosting and N-key rollover are also offered.
RGB lighting and customization
Of course, the Alienware AW420K offers customizable RGB lighting. In 16.8 million colors, each button can be individually changed in color using AlienFX lighting. The keys themselves are said to be fully configurable, while the Windows key can be disabled via the AlienwareCommand Center app if desired.

A total of five profiles can be stored in the AW420K’s built-in memory, to which different key combinations and RGB lighting settings can be assigned.

Pricing and availability
The Alienware AW420K is expected to hit stores in fall 2022. So far, the manufacturer has only listed prices for the United States and Canada, where the TKL keyboard starts at the recommended retail price (relatively low) of $129.99. We still don’t know yet when and at what prices the keyboard will be available in Europe.
